Kristin M Aakre, MD, PhD

Kristin M Aakre graduated from the University of Bergen Medical School in 1998. After internship she worked as a resident in internal medicine until 2005 when she started to work at the Laboratory of Clinical Biochemistry at Haukeland University Hospital.  

Dr Aakre completed her specialization in laboratory medicine in 2009 and defended her PhD thesis in 2011. In 2012 she was appointed Medical Director of the Laboratory of Clinical Biochemistry at Haukeland University Hospital and in 2017 she was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Bergen.

From 2009 Dr Aakre has been engaged in several national and international working groups of the Norwegian Society for Medical Biochemistry (NSMB), European Federation for Laboratory Medicine (EFLM) and International Federation for Clinical Chemistry (IFCC). She has published numerous papers under the umbrella of the Norwegian External Quality Assessment Program, NSMB or EFLM, mainly related to EQA, guidelines and cardiac markers. She is a member of the scientific committee of several congresses within clinical chemistry.

After completing the PhD, Dr Aakres’s main avenues of interest has been renal and cardiac biomarkers, and she is currently the principal investigator of a national multi-center study and the principal investigator and co-investigator of several local studies within the fields of renal and cardiac biomarkers.
